All About Dance Costumes
Dance costumes are most often worn by dancers during a performance.
Dance costumes can be purchased already made or specifically ordered
through a designer and made to dancer specifications.

Dance costumes are made for every genre of dance. Since the majority of
these costumes are worn during a performance they are usually designed
around a theme. For example, there are many costumes designed around the
cats them. You can buy a variety of costumes that have cat ears, tails
and a cat like body. There are several costume items made that are
called tutu's. The tutu is normally used in the style of dance know as
ballet. The tutu is usually made from a mesh material called tulle. The
tulle is attached to and elastic band that fits snugly around the waist
of the dancer. The tutu may hang from the elastic or be supported the
whole way around the tutu by way of thin wire throughout the tutu.
Tutu's come in a variety of sizes, colors and types. For example there
is a tutu called Grishko Kitri Tutu. This tutu is very large and
colorful and is used in adult dance performance. Dresses are also a
very popular costume in dance. Dance styles such as flamenco and salsa
use dresses for the women. These dresses are made of a cotton or Lycra
Nylon much like other dance wear. They are usually form fitting at the
top and have a flowing skirt that drops down to the knee area of the
dancer. The dresses are made of light weight material in order to flow
with the dancer as they turn to make for a beautiful and dramatic
performance.

Sequence dance wear is also used to make for a more beautiful
performance. Sequence dance wear includes skirts, tops, hats, shoes and
other accessories. The skirts normally tie around the waist and are worn
over the top of a leotard or dance underwear of an accompanying color.
The tops tie around the neck and behind the back. The accompanying
accessories can be worn in conjunction with the skirts and tops or stand
alone for a more dramatic effect. When purchasing dance costumes
comfort should be of the utmost importance. When the dancer moves the
dance wear must be able to move with them and not constrict the
movements. Therefore, all costumes should either be outfitted for the
dancer that will wear them or the dancer must pay careful consideration
to fit and material.
