All About Dance Leotards

Dance leotards are the first thing that comes to ones mind when they think about dance. And there is a good reason for that. Leotards are the basic clothing that is required for all styles of dance. Many dancers wear leotards due to the fact that they are light weight and the material moves as the dancer maneuvers through the various dance moves.

The basic leotard is made as a one piece outfit. The leotard is pulled on either from the feet up or over the head. Leotards are form fit and should fit snuggly on the dancer. They are made this way to allow the dancer to move freely. The most widely found leotard is made from cotton Lycra due to the fact that the material “breaths” so the dancer does not get over heated. There are some that are made from Nylon Lycra as well. Most leotards have no covering on the legs and arms. However, you can purchase leotards that provide this coverage. Leotards range in price from 10 pounds to 30 pounds depending on the brand and the material used.

One type of leotard that is worn is called the cat suit. This leotard is made from the same material as normal leotards. These type of leotards cover the legs and the arms completely and have a strap that fits around the foot to secure the leotard. Cat suits are form fitting and most often used as part of a costume when performing. The price of cat suits ranges from 20 pounds to approximately 40 pounds depending on the manufacturer.

Gymnasts also wear a form of leotard. The leotard worn by gymnasts differs slightly from that of a dancer. These leotards have no leg coverings, however some are made with arm coverings. This is due to the fact that gymnasts use their legs for the majority of their movements and cannot have their legs constricted. Gymnasts leotards are most commonly made from velvet with intricate and beautiful designs. The velvet leotards are worn for competition purposes only. Normal cotton Lycra leotards should be worn by the gymnast while they are at practice, unless otherwise advised by their coach. The price of Leotards can range from 30 pounds and up depending not only on brand but the style and material of the leotard.

Leotards are very important in dancing. This kind of dance wear is manufactured specifically for the use of dancers and gymnasts. When starting dance or gymnastics classes the dancer may want to purchase several leotards to use.
