Choosing the Right Dance Wear

Dance wear varies depending on genre of dance being performed. Dance wear can include shirts, tops, pants or shorts and other accessories. When choosing dance wear there are many factors that must be considered due to the range of materials used and type of clothing made. Dance wear is made in a variety of sizes, including children's sizes.

Dance shorts and pants are usually made from materials such as Lycra or cotton. Shorts and pants are worn for dance styles including modern dance and jazz dance. The pants and shorts should be form somewhat form fitting, while still allowing the dancer to move freely. Therefore, pants and shorts that are made from a stretchable material are the best to wear. Modern dance requires pants as well. The pants made for this style of dance will normally flare at the bottom. Dance shorts and pants range from 5 pounds to 20 pounds depending on the brand purchased.

Dance tops and shirts are also made from either Lycra or cotton. These materials are used due to the fact that they stretch and move as the dancer performs. These materials also have a “breathable” quality meaning the dancer will not get overheated while dancing. Dance shirts and tops are used for many styles of dance including jazz, modern, flamenco and ballet. The cost of dance shirts and tops varies depending on the brand. However, they normally range from 6 pounds to up to 30 pounds.

Dance skirts may be required for different types of dance. For example, ballet and flamenco dance styles require that the dancer wear a skirt. The skirts should be made from a very light weight material and fit snuggly around the waist. These skirts can cost up to 65 pounds.

There are other accessories that may be purchased for dancing. These accessories include tights, warm ups and socks. They also make hoodies and cover ups that are meant to accompany the outfit worn by the dancer. The accessories that are sold for dancing are also designed for optimal movement of the dancer. These accessories may or may not be required for dance. You will need to consult your dance instructor as to which items you will need.

When choosing dance wear the most important factor is comfort. Dancing is a strenuous activity that requires a full range of motion from the body. Therefore, the dancer must choose materials that will allow for this type of activity.
