There are various types of shoes worn for dancing. Dance shoes should fit comfortably to allow the dancer to move quickly and gracefully as is required by most types of dance. Dance shoes should be made from material that can easily stretch to accommodate the moves of the dancer.

Ballet slippers are the most type of dance shoes that are sold. These shoes are made of thin leather that is attached to a suede sole. The leather and suede is made of a light weight material that allows the dancer to move lightly while wearing the slippers. Ballet shoes are made be form fitting and sit like a sock on the foot. These shoes range in price from 2 pounds to 10 pounds depending on the manufacturer.

The flamenco and jazz styles of dance require the dancer to wear high heel shoes. These shoes are made of patten leather with heels that range in size from one inch to two and a half inches. The heels are square instead of pointed and can either be thick or thin. The size of the heel will depend on the dancer that wears the shoes and their skill level. The price of these shoes varies from 30 pounds all the way up to 60 pounds depending on the brand and style.

Sneakers are typically worn in the modern dance style. The sneakers are made of the same canvas material that normal sneakers are also made from. However, dance sneakers have a higher arch in the shoe and are form fitted to a dancers feet. They are meant to fit very snuggly to allow for the fast and fluid motions of the dancer. These shoes range in price from 40 pounds to 60 pounds.

Tap shoes are required for tap dancing. These shoes are made in a variety of both style and colors. Tap shoes are made of patten leather and have a metal disc attached to the soles of the shoes. The metal discs allow for the dancer to make the “tapping” sounds as they dance. Tap shoes can be high heeled, flats and slippers. Tap shoes range from 10 pounds to 60 pounds depending on both style and manufacturer.
